A Trip to Build a Dream On: Paris Part One

I’m not quite sure why it took me so long to get a passport.

I’m not talking about the lines at the post office or some unusual event that slowed the government from issuance.

I had just not obtained one until this year, 2018. I had had no solid plans to travel abroad when I got it, just a glint of the idea that I might like to go.

The idea of going had been in my mind ever since I was small while making a hobby of stealing the National Geographic magazine maps from my grandparents’ subscriptions. I had a whole shoebox full of them, from Asia to South America and the cool ones from Africa (where there were also photos of strange and nude cultures that ornamented themselves in colorful jewelry and scraps of cloth in places that did not involve modesty).

My trips prior to this year had all been domestic. Frequent, but domestic. Hey, I know the lingo. It’s all good.

So why did I jump the ocean and make it to Paris this fall?

Cheap tickets and a call to action. ‘Nuff said.

For more on the story, stay tuned for my next post!
